God’s love has been compared to an ocean and those of us that have seen the ocean can understand why. As far as the eye can see there seems to be no end to its length, depth, and width. God’s love has no end. It is so vast, powerful and limitless. His love for us does not change, no matter what we’ve done or not done. Disobeying the Lord dishonors and displeases Him but His love remains unconditional.
Who of us can grasp God’s unconditional love?
God proved His unwavering love to us when He gave His only begotten Son to die for the sins of all mankind. It is available to you and me right now to receive. I admit there are times this is hard to fathom.
One of the deepest understandings that I have received of God’s love is His forgiveness. Actually, by receiving God’s forgiveness I receive His love. Here is what Jesus said about the woman who was known among the people as a sinner; Wherefore I say unto thee, Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, the same loveth little. (Luke 7:47)
The greatness of God’s mercy is available to us as we see our need for forgiveness and realize the depth of our own sin.
What could be more loving than Jesus giving His life so that I can have life eternal? In John 15:13 Jesus said that there is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for a friend.
The unconditional love that Jesus has shown and continues to freely give us is an example of how we are to love and forgive one another. This will show by our love and devotion towards the Lord and others. As often as we expect and need forgiveness from God, that’s how often we are to forgive our fellowman. Here is an example from scripture
Matthew 18:21-22 Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times? Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven.
There is one requirement to God’s forgiveness and that is we must forgive those who sin against us.
Jesus gave His life for the forgiveness of all our sins. Our sin separates us from God. Through the blood of Jesus Christ our sins can be erased, and we can be in right standing with God again, as if we never sinned.
We owe Jesus all our love, devotion, praise and worship forever. We can never repay Him, but we can love and serve Him, and that’s all He wants from us.
